Here's What You Need To Know If You Plan To Become A Pet Parent

Quoting Caroline Knapp, "Before you get a dog, you can't quite imagine what living with one might be like; afterward, you can't imagine living any other way".
Dog is the best companion one could ever have,but are you the right companion a dog is looking for?
I firmly believe that dog is your family member and you treat them no differently. Have you ever imagined leaving your baby all home alone while you are at the office? Have you ever thought of adopting a baby when you are a bachelor? I know all you have in your mind right now is a BIG no!
The dog is no different. I have received quite a few emails regarding dog talks,but one common question was "I want a rottweiler, but i am a bachelor", to which i replied;
It is just not about a rottweiler but for that matter any dog irrespective of their size or breed, need lots of love, affection, family bond and care. Many people think keeping food and toys is enough for the dog to survive and stay happy. I came across this fact which said "Dogs spend 70% of their life waiting for their owner to come back". Each breed has different requirements, it is our responsibility to cater to their requirement. Some need constant pampering while some need a lot a socialization. In either ways you need to invest a lot of time.
Irrespective of breed, Socialization and Training play an important role in a dogs life. If the pet parents fail to cater to these important things, they end up giving away their pets. Hence dedication, passion and time are a must when it comes to getting home a pet.
Secondly, I wouldn't recommend a pet to a family where even one of the family member is not in favor of getting home a pet. I am a victim of this problem and glad i successfully came out of the problem. Unfortunately, i come across so many adoption posts, most of them because they were abandoned by the pet parent for a silly reason that one of their family member is not happy or has some medical problems for which the doctor has advised to not have pets.
The day you get home a pet, it looks at you as a family, trusts you blindly and gets attached to the family. The day you decide to abandon the pet, you break his trust and hurt his feelings and make his life hell. Even if the pet finds a new home, it takes time for the pet to get used to the new family.
Getting home a pet also requires financial commitment especially in it's puppyhood. Vaccines, food as per diet requirements, training, socialization, toys and treats are something for which you need to invest without a slightest compromise.
So, my dear future pet parents, please take an informed decision as you will be getting home a new life and not just a toy. An informed decision now, will make your life and your pet's life an easy one.
